Fluffies

Today is 21 days since we set our clucky hen, since then we have been waiting and waiting. In the mean time we did have a few surprise arrivals.
This and his/her, brother/sister found behind the chook shed in early December.
This Mum and chick were found just last week wandering the yard.

This morning I checked on the expectant Mum and nothing, not a thing was happening. I went out for the day and returned home to this .......
Which the became this.....
and then.....
soon followed by.....
and lastly with a bit of chick starter encouragement.....
HOW CUTE!!

She is still sitting on a couple of eggs, so still could get more but we are REALLY happy with 5 chicks given our best so far has been 2 chicks. These eggs were from a friend so not sure what they are, some were bantam others full size.I'll have to find out what breeds and then people can have fun guessing breed and gender of the chicks. I know some were silkie eggs.

Eggs come in all sizes.....

As you have seen we have a chicken or two and we get a huge amount of eggs each day, aprox 1 dozen a day. Some we give to family and friends, we eat some in salads or sandwiches and I bake alot!!
Its nice being able to bake that cake with 4-6 eggs and not worry about it, if I was paying for the eggs this wouldn't be the case.

The other day I said we had picked our first zucchini and how I planned on turning it with our eggs into a yummy quiche. So tonight we had this very yummy quiche for dinner YUM!!

What will be even better is when the capsicum, tomato etc also come out of our very own garden, so looking forward to that :)

When the kids were out collecting eggs they came in excited about the BIG egg they had collected.
Our eggs come in three sizes but the third is a surprise your never sure when your going to get one and today was the day!
The little white eggs is a bantam egg - great for salad and we love them in the jaffle because you can get a yolk on each side of the sandwich also good for cooking with just use 2 in place or one regular egg.
The middles brown egg is from the Isa Brown hens - these are your regular shop style eggs.
The BIG egg is also from the Isa Brown hens - its a double yolker! We only get them from time to time and the kids are always excited when we get one.
